The purpose of the Physician Assistant (PA) program is to educate outstanding physician assistants who, together with physicians and allied health professionals, will provide quality healthcare to the residents of Louisiana and other states.

GPA

Acceptance into the PA program is competitive. While we do not publish a minimum GPA or GRE standard for admissions, the following table should give the applicant guidance as to how competitive he/she is in comparison to prior PA classes. Candidates should have a “B” or better in all defined prerequisite course work in order to be considered competitive. Repeated attempts at pre-requisite coursework will be noted and can weaken candidate’s overall application packet.

The PA program strives to accept a diverse, mature, compassionate and community service-oriented student body. Therefore, in addition to excellence in academics, the admissions committee considers many other individual factors when considering each applicant:

Hands on experience (generally a minimum of 80 hours to be considered competitive)
Shadowing one or more PAs
Licensed healthcare worker
Previous military experience
OLOL College graduate
Student from medically underserved areas
