University of Missouri Columbia, MO 15 months 2 students Postgraduate Fellowship Program » View Physician Assistant Feature Brochure Since January 2011, the University of Missouri Health System in Columbia, Mo., has been offering an intense and rewarding postgraduate fellowship for physician assistants in acute care medicine. The physician assistant fellowship program is a collaboration among University Hospital, the MU School of Medicine and its departments of emergency medicine, internal medicine and surgery, and the MU School of Health Professions. University Hospital is a 300-bed hospital in central Missouri. It serves as central Missouri’s only Level I trauma center and as a tertiary referral center for much of mid-Missouri. The hospital is located on the MU campus, along with its academic partners, the School of Medicine, the Sinclair School of Nursing and the School of Health Professions. As part of an academic medical center, University Hospital is host to many physician residency and fellowship programs. Touro University-Manhattan Physician Assistant Program

The mission of the Touro College Physician Assistant Programs is to educate capable students to meet the challenges of providing health care services under the supervision of a licensed physician. The programs also strive to excel in the education and training of physician assistants who will serve the health care needs of the community with competence, compassion, and dedication. The program curriculum is designed to educate its graduates to function as traditionally-trained primary care providers who are able to provide care to patients in any number of specialties in hospital-based and private office settings, and to prepare graduates with the requisite medical knowledge to pass the national certifying examination. The curriculum is also formulated to sensitize the student to diverse patient populations and the impact of socioeconomic factors on health care and its availability. The Manhattan Campus PA Program offers non-traditional scheduling of classes. This has enabled the program to broaden access to PA education to persons who prefer a non-traditional schedule format because of family commitments or the need to work part-time to finance their education.
