PA Postgraduate Program at a Glance

  • Specialty: Family Medicine
  • Location: Sacramento, CA
  • Accreditation: Not ARC-PA Accredited
  • Program length: 12 months — “This is a full time 40-hour per week, one year long commitment.”
  • Positions per year: 4 per cohort, two cohorts annually (8 per year). ⚠️ Sutter’s FAQ says “4 residents every 6 months”, which contradicts its own July and October start dates; the cohort size is the reliable part.
  • Stipend / salary: $127,392–$127,393 per year. The programme page states “The salary of our Residents is $127,392 with full medical and dental coverage for employees and their dependents”; the live job requisition states “Salary Range USD $127,393.00 – USD $127,393.00 /Yr.” (a fixed training salary, not a range). ⚠️ The same page’s meta description tag still carries a stale $108,742 — do not use it. This is the highest published stipend in the directory and it was verified twice, on two different Sutter pages, precisely because it is an outlier.
  • Benefits: Full medical and dental for employee and dependents; 401(k) with 10% match (plus a possible additional 10% via value-based-care metrics); PTO; CME allowance and time; malpractice and tail fully covered; relocation assistance up to $20,000.
  • Credential awarded: Check program website
  • Eligibility: “Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program or completion of a graduate-level Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program that meets California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) standards.”; “Active and unrestricted license to practice in the state of California as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) by the month prior to the start date.”; “Preferred Qualifications: New graduate Nurse Practitioner or new graduate Physician Assistant preferred.”
  • Application deadline: Not published — application is a rolling job-requisition submission rather than a dated cycle.
  • How to apply: Direct application
  • Start date: July and October (two cohorts annually)
  • Setting & rotations: Sutter Medical Group outpatient family medicine, Sacramento/Davis CA, with 23 named specialty rotations. Residents are Sutter Medical Group employees.

Not ARC-PA accredited — which is normal for PA postgraduate programs and is not a mark against this one. This specific program is not separately listed in APPAP’s member directory; verify current status with the program.
