University of Missouri Columbia, MO 15 months 2 students Postgraduate Fellowship Program » View Physician Assistant Feature Brochure Since January 2011, the University of Missouri Health System in Columbia, Mo., has been offering an intense and rewarding postgraduate fellowship for physician assistants in acute care medicine. The physician assistant fellowship program is a collaboration among University Hospital, the MU School of Medicine and its departments of emergency medicine, internal medicine and surgery, and the MU School of Health Professions. University Hospital is a 300-bed hospital in central Missouri. It serves as central Missouri’s only Level I trauma center and as a tertiary referral center for much of mid-Missouri. The hospital is located on the MU campus, along with its academic partners, the School of Medicine, the Sinclair School of Nursing and the School of Health Professions. As part of an academic medical center, University Hospital is host to many physician residency and fellowship programs. Montefiore Medical Center Bronx, NY 12 months 2Students OB-GYN Physician Assistant Residency Program Montefiore Medical Center is an internationally recognized leader in modern healthcare research and education. With highly competitive residency programs in all aspects of medicine, it is affiliated with one of the most prestigious medical schools in the nation, Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM). The Montefiore Post-Graduate Residency is a 12-month, full-time postgraduate residency program offering intensive training in obstetrics and gynecology. PA residents are trained alongside the OB/GYN physician residents and are exposed to the management of OB/GYN patients in a variety of settings and circumstances. Montefiore Medical Center – Albert Einstein College of Medicine Bronx, NY 14.5 months 5 Students Postgraduate Residency for Physician Assistants in Surgery Montefiore’s Physician Assistant residency is the oldest postgraduate residency program in the country. In 1971, just six years after the Physician Assistant profession was founded, Montefiore became the first hospital to include PA’s as house officers on inpatient surgical services. Those PA’s quickly became an integral part of the surgical team at Montefiore and their clinical experience was formalized into a 12 month residency in general surgery and surgical specialties. In 1978, a pre-internship didactic phase was added in order to provide a firm scientific foundation for the clinical phase of the program. The current residency is still structured in this way, that is, with a classroom based educational program followed by clinical rotations.
