Texas Children’s Hospital Pediatric Surgery Houston, TX 12 months 6 Students Surgery Physician Assistant Fellowship Providing advanced pediatric surgical training to physician assistants The Pediatric Surgery Fellowship for Physician Assistants is the first of its kind in the country to offer a 12-month didactic and clinical pediatric training program to physician assistants. Our fellowship ensures a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a full spectrum of pediatric surgical subspecialties, and to become a leader in all areas of pediatric surgery. Surgical subspecialties include: congenital heart surgery, general pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, trauma, urology, and an innovative new addition, surgical hospitalist. The one-year program includes 10 months of clinical pediatric surgical subspecialty experience and one month of basic laboratory research. Each participating fellow then elects one surgical division to focus on during the final month of the program. Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown, NY 12 months 2 Student Surgical Postgraduate Physician Assistant Program General Description This program was developed in 2005 by surgical physician assistants in multiple subspecialties to train PA’s in surgery to have a well-rounded background in general and specialty areas of surgery. The program is run by physician assistants and attending physicians at Bassett Medical Center including a regional network of four affiliate hospitals and 28 community health centers serving an eight-county region in central New York. PA’s spend most of their time in Cooperstown, N.Y. at The Mary Imogene Bassett hospital, a 180-bed acute care, and inpatient teaching facility. Bassett has physician residencies in General Surgery, Primary Care, Internal Medicine and Transitional Year. Currently, over 20 physician assistants practice within the Department of Surgery, including all of the subspecialties. The post graduate training program is 12-months in duration, with didactic and clinical portions ongoing throughout the year. University of Missouri Columbia, MO 15 months 2 students Postgraduate Fellowship Program » View Physician Assistant Feature Brochure Since January 2011, the University of Missouri Health System in Columbia, Mo., has been offering an intense and rewarding postgraduate fellowship for physician assistants in acute care medicine. The physician assistant fellowship program is a collaboration among University Hospital, the MU School of Medicine and its departments of emergency medicine, internal medicine and surgery, and the MU School of Health Professions. University Hospital is a 300-bed hospital in central Missouri. It serves as central Missouri’s only Level I trauma center and as a tertiary referral center for much of mid-Missouri. The hospital is located on the MU campus, along with its academic partners, the School of Medicine, the Sinclair School of Nursing and the School of Health Professions. As part of an academic medical center, University Hospital is host to many physician residency and fellowship programs.
